The infinite possibilities of clay allow my imagination free flight. For over 35 years I have enjoyed the
cornucopia of choices it presents. Be it sculpture, jewelry, painting or functional work, all are equally
important to me depending on what my focus is. The different types of clay and their unique firing
procedures dictate how the work should be formed and decorated. I am blessed to live in an era where
our inspirations can flow unimpeded.

Todays potter has to be not only the designer, maker, chemical technician, painter and kiln firing expert,
they also have to be skilled in marketing to bring all their labors together to present the final work for
sale. It is only recently that this phenomenon has existed. Before the mid 20th century a team of highly
skilled individual workers would be involved in the many aspects of pottery production. This makes
the 21st century potters work, although extremely labour intensive, ‘special’ beyond imagination!

I have recently returned to painting with water colors and ink and find that just as it happens in my clay work,
my life’s influences and experiences emerge in my paintings. The interplay between clay and paint
and paper is presenting me with interesting explorations.
